J.L. Ilsley High

January 4th, 2023

  • January 4 is world Braille Day: Braille is a tactile representation of alphabetic and numerical symbols using six dots to represent each letter and number, and even musical, mathematical and scientific symbols. Braille (named after its inventor in 19th century France, Louis Braille) is used by blind and partially sighted people to read the same books and periodicals as those printed in a visual font. Braille is essential in the context of education, freedom of expression and opinion, as well as social inclusion, as reflected in article 2 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. If you'd like to figure out what your name would be like in Braille - feel free to visit Stoffer in room 128 during lunch today.
  • Today will be the first read through for the school musical. All cast members are asked to attend the read through after school today from 4pm to 6pm. Please contact Ms. White, Ms. Cooper or Ms. Mignault if you are unable to attend or if you have not yet been added to the Google Classroom.
  • Nova Scotia Works partners are hosting a Summer Student Job Fair on next Monday, January 9 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Halifax Central Library at 5440 Spring Garden Road for students ages 16 and up. Please note, there are also opportunities for students who only speak French or who have strong French language skills but little to no English.
