  • Holidays are important, so let’s talk about Hanukkah. Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a Jewish festival celebrated for eight consecutive days and nights. Hanukkah is rooted in deep history and is celebrated to commemorate the triumph of Maccabees against the Greeks during times of oppression. Hanukkah reaffirms the ideals of Judaism and commemorates, notably, the rededication of the Second Temple of Jerusalem by lighting candles on each day of the festival. Hanukkah became a widely observed holiday and is still a favorite among Jewish people today. It’s celebrated from Monday, December 19, to Monday, December 26, 2022.
  • Attention JL students! The earth-wise club will collect plastic bottles for a bottle drive until December 19th. We are asking students and staff to bring any plastic bottles to room 118, so they may be properly recycled. Let’s help keep the plastic out of our oceans!
  • Interested in learning martial arts? The martial Arts club will meet at lunch on day B of the schedule. We will focus on the fundamentals of judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and kickboxing. See Mr. Hennebury for more information.
  • Charity Bowl games are happening this coming Monday.  On the afternoon of Monday the 19th, for $2, students have the option of attending the girl's basketball game against Eastern Shore in the gym or the boy's hockey game against Dartmouth High at the rink.  For paying $2, you are excused from class to attend the game of choice.  You can prepay for your $2 ticket from your 2 block teacher all this week OR in the cafeteria at lunch from Students' Council.  Tickets will be sold all this week.  Only a limited amount of tickets will be sold.  If there is space available, admission might be collected at the door.   The actual ticket will be given out on Monday morning before the afternoon games begin.  So buy yours early to ensure you can attend.  All proceeds will go to the Chebucto Family Center.
  • Nova Scotia Works partners are hosting a Summer Student Job Fair on Monday, January 9, from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Halifax Central Library at 5440 Spring Garden Road for students ages 16 and up. For fair details, please check the poster on the board either out of the GYM or in the Counselor’s area. If you need more help for applying, please see Ms. Brooks Arenburg, Nova Scotia Works School Liaison, in room 307.
